Cultural consumption was the theme of our last full day together in Paris, and Jaime and I did it in style. We first built up an appetite with a long walk through the Latin Quarter. Then lunch was the tasting menu, with wine pairings, at the Michelin one-star Restaurant Hélène Darroze.
From the perspective of diversity and deliciousness of tastes and textures it has to be the finest meal of my life. Even the foams — about which I was quite skeptical — were distinct and delicious.

After yet another walk through Paris — including a visit to Maison Deyrolle — Jaime whipped up a light but nutritious dinner at home. Then we headed out to see the Benjamin Britten opera Billy Budd. We reserved rather late so we had great, although expensive, seats. The performance was powerful and moving. And so to bed!
