I got back on Monday afternoon from a lovely weekend at L’Ejumeau, my cousin’s family estate in the Sologne. Here’s a look at the place from last year’s visit:
The full set of photos up at this link, and a video panorama is at this link. There’s lots more in the Picasa set, but here’s a teaser of Jeff and me in the L’Ejumeau pool with perfectly-timed glasses of rosé poured by my thoughtful cousin Lisa.
Unfortunately, I was still coughing a bit during the weekend, but I feel a lot better now and I’m hoping to be out of the woods at last.
One of my travel anxieties was relieved this weekend. We went down in two rental cars, and I drove one of them. The wrinkle was that this was the first time I had driven a stick shift on the road in nearly twenty years. I had had a practice session with my former roommate Richard Cobbe after last year’s trip, so I was pretty sure it would come back, but I was still somewhat concerned. Happily it was fine. I stalled out just once, and ultimately handled rush hour traffic in Paris with aplomb.
