My Boston friend Rafael arrived this morning. Everything went smoothly except it turns out that my buzzer is not fixed, so he waited an hour outside my door! Fortunately I saw him out the window just as he was giving up and going off to rent a hotel room! All was well after that but I regret his hour of anxiety.
After he settled in we set out for a marathon walk across the city, going to Place d’Italie and back by a lovely circuitous route (including two drinks at Open Café). Rafael enjoyed many sights, but his favorite experience of all was an almond croissant:
One of Rafael’s goals was to purchase particular souvenirs for his mother and another friend. While I normally avoid souvenir shops like the plague I did think that the refrigerator magnets in this particular shop pretty much nailed my Parisian experience:
There were a few drops of rain today but it was mostly sunny and nice for walking.
After an early dinner Rafael crashed to sleep out his jet-lag, and I finally caught up on my blog. So to bed!
