I took a walk this morning and came across a street that rivals my own — rue des Martyrs in the 9ème and 18ème. Lots of food shops and cafés, open despite the fact that this was another of those pesky jours fériés. My favorite was this bakery, Delmontel:
This afternoon I attended a discussion between two authors (Didier Blonde and Robert Bober) about the way in which the Paris streets have figured in and affected their works. The program ended with the introduction of a web site, La Ville est un Roman (the City is a Story), which invites users to geotag favorite literary passages on a Google map of Paris. In the same facility — the newly-opened Gaîté Lyrique — I stumbled on a remarkable art exhibition. Here is a photo of one of my favorite pieces:
Finally, after a little 12/24 hour snafu, my Harvard friend Steve Christensen and I caught up for a glass of wine at my place and dinner at Le Loup Blanc (which closed in 2014):
