On Friday morning Sherard and I walked to the Musée du quai Branly by way of the Louvre. Even though the Louvre museum was closed we could walk around the complex. There were playful conceptual art projects in both of the main courtyards.

The Musée du quai Branly is an enormous feast of tribal and indigenous art from Africa, South America, Oceania and Southeast Asia — basically the places where France had colonies — plus some good contemporary work by Australian aborigines. We had lunch first at the museum restaurant then plunged into the enormous, confusing permanent collection. Here are a few pieces that I especially appreciated.
